Coffee | Culture | Meaning on Giving Tuesday
In light of Giving Tuesday, I want to pull back the curtain on some of our philanthropic work and share how we live out the values that guide our work.
The third word in our tagline is “meaning,” which, for us, means using our company for good and not for evil. Maybe that’s a little melodramatic, maybe it’s just the right amount of melodrama . . . you can decide. We like it. The best part of running this coffee roasting company is the relationships we’re able to create and nurture. It’s all about doing the right thing and lifting each other up.
Below, I’ll highlight a few of the great partners we’ve worked with in 2024. Each of these companies are doing solid, impactful work. I highly recommend looking into them, and, if you’re feeling the stoke, send them a little love by buying a cup of coffee or sending financial support their way.
Here's how, with these partners, DOMA walks the talk of using business to create good. Through freshly-roasted coffee beans, volunteer hours, and dollar bills, DOMA gives to these organizations with the goals of
- improving the communities we work within
- maintaining and improving the health of the environment and the people advocating for responsible environmental policies and practices
- supporting the working conditions and health of people who work in the hospitality and coffee industries
- getting people, especially kids, access to winter sports to encourage physical and mental health during the darkest season of our region
- providing access to cycling, especially for women, and supporting the expansion and health of trails for cycling and
- championing artists and craftspeople by utilizing their work whenever and wherever possible in our coffee-roasting endeavors.
Whew. That was a lot. A lot of goodness. But now that you know the list, you’ll see why we chose to work with these companies:
- Protect Our Winters is a collection of outdoor athletes, artists and companies that are working together to advocate for transformative policy solutions to tackle the climate crisis.
- Dogsmile Adventure creates powerful opportunities for people to discover healing and potential through sailing adventures. Check out the Start with Coffee feature we made to learn a bit more about this great organization.
- Big Table knows that the highest concentration of need in the nation is within the people working in the hospitality industry. Big Table exists to see the lives of this group transformed by building community and caring for those in crisis, transition, or falling through the cracks.
- Asiina Cycling works to empower and elevate women cyclists with a community of growth and excellence, providing dedicated support and promoting inclusivity. This is a new club and new partnership for DOMA Coffee and we’re very excited to see it grow. Keep an eye out for some podium pics in the near future.
- Zion National Park Forever Project – look, the national parks system, alongside things like freedom and the codified system for providing checks and balances between the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government, is one of the wonders of this country. The Zion Natl Park Forever Project provides critical resources to the park and the people who operate it so that it will be as amazing for the next generation as it has been for ours and the generations that came before us.
- Transitions works to end poverty and homelessness for women and children in Spokane. You can argue about a lot of things these days, but working to end poverty and homelessness seems like a pretty easy “yes” to us.
- Safe Passage stands with the community and survivors of violence to provide safety, education and empowerment. Their vision is a community free from violence. We want to see this vision become a reality.
This is just a sampling of the people we’ve had the good fortune to work with this year. Know that with every cup of coffee you buy, you help us and these companies on their mission to do good. Consider giving year-round to the causes you hold close to your heart. Thanks for being a part of DOMA.
