DOMA Coffee Roasting Company has been traveling to Guatemala since 2010. We visit the regions where our coffee is grown, talk with producers and learn about the challenges they face. We feel that long-term relationships are an important aspect of sustainability in our industry and help provide greater transparency in our coffee purchases.
For the last 6 years, DOMA has worked with K-finos to source organic Guatemalan coffees from Huehuetenango. K-finos is a family-owned company in Huehuetenango, Guatemala that buys semi-processed green coffee from producers. They accept deliveries of parchment* (pergamino) from conventional and organic producers. *Parchment coffee, also known as “pergamino”, is coffee that has been wet-milled and dried. This coffee still needs to go through the dry-milling process (hulling, cleaning, sizing, sorting, bagging) before being exported.
K-Finos buys coffee directly from producers, cups each delivery and carefully blends the delicious lots that we buy each year. They also provide technical assistance to the growers, helping them produce amazing coffees. We currently purchase organic coffees from the ASOPCE Cooperative, a cooperative of more than 450 families with farms that average just a few acres in size.
