Café Shift Lead (Full-Time)

Please know the café is expected to open in late spring/early summer 2024

The Café Shift Lead is responsible for assisting in the successful operation of the café. This individual provides leadership and direction by assisting the Café manager in the oversight of the cafe. The Café Shift Lead reports to the Café Manager and assists in overseeing the entire Café team.

Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership and direction by assisting in the oversight of the cafe.
  • Responsible for achievement of the cafe vision and mission.
  • Supervise and train barista staff to ensure adherence to company standards for food and beverage preparation, presentation, and customer service.
  • Work with DOMA Coffee leadership team to hire and train café team.
  • Ensure café standards are met. Propose updates to standards as appropriate.
  • Ensure café equipment is well-maintained and schedule regular maintenance.
  • Collaborate in the creation of new menu items in accordance with process and standards of DOMA Coffee Roasting Company.
  • Work with Coffee team to create and test existing recipes for all coffees.
  • Assist with managing inventory levels and placing orders to keep optimal levels, as needed.
  • Serve as a voice and face of DOMA.
  • Conduct staff meetings with cafe personnel regularly.
  • Taste coffee lineup regularly, provide feedback to Coffee team.
  • Stay informed on new coffee availability and attributes.
  • Follow food safety guidelines and ensure proper handling of food and beverages while maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Perform other duties or projects, as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for coffee.
  • Detail-oriented. Customer service that is executed in a personal and professional manner.
  • Experience and proficiency with SCA standards preferred.
  • Desire to educate others about our coffee and espresso methods.
  • People management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with both employees and customers.
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback and constantly striving to improve.
  • Ability to multi-task with ease in a fast-paced environment.
  • Existing Idaho Food Handler Card or will obtain it within 30 days post-hire.

Physical Demands

  • Stand and walk—must be able to stand for shifts and move about the cafe.
  • Perform repetitive motion with the hands, wrists and forearms to operate espresso machinery.
  • Taste/Smell – ability to detect and perceive smell of coffee.
  • Communicate effectively with customers.
  • Carry weight, lift – lift up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
